🍺 The Guinness Widget – an innovation more ground-breaking than the internet? 🏡✨
Since its inception, pints of the iconic Black Stuff have been enjoyed in pubs across the globe. But Guinness wanted consumers to be able to enjoy their velvety smooth stout at home… The solution? The revolutionary Guinness Widget.
This little plastic gadget agitates the beer when a can is cracked open, releasing a storm of tiny nitrogen bubbles. This creates a rich and creamy pour and the surge-and-settle pouring experience that Guinness is renowned for.
Originally invented by John Lunn and later patented in 1996, it was so innovative it even snagged the Queen’s Award for Technological Achievement in 1991, beating the early internet! 🌐👑
Next time you pour a Guinness at home, thank the little widget inside your can for that perfect pint. Cheers to innovation! 🍻

The Guinness Widget – A solution to a marketing problem
In the early 1980’s, Guinness had the challenge of brining the Guinness Draught experience into the home. Guinness Draught in a can was launched in 1988, breaking more barriers in technology with the innovative ‘widget’. Originally created in the 1980’s by John Lunn and then patented by Guinness in 1996, this ground-breaking invention in beer packaging proved to be so popular that the widget went on to win the Queen’s Award for Technological Achievement in 1991, beating the invention of the internet (granted it was only in it’sprimitive form).
